My ultimate goal has always been to reach MBL with blunt ends. After 3 years of slowly but surely cutting off my ridiculously over-processed thin ends, a shedding fiasco, and the worse relaxer experience of my life---I think that I finally made it!
My bangs are finally the same length as my hemline; something that I've lusted after forever. It's safe to say that protein layering is working, that my hair loves whipped butter, and that my hair is thriving without frequent direct heat.
One Year Post Relaxer Feels Like...
Accomplishing. I expected my ends to be a hot mess. I expected breakage galore. I even gave myself a pre-flat iron pep talk. I reminded myself that my ends might not be able to withstand 52 weeks of detangling several textures. I didn't want to be disappointed if my hemline was a crooked mess.
Liberating. The freedom of not having length goals is exhilarating. I love my air dried hair---especially when my hair is set in bantu knots. The bigger and fluffier my hair the better. I'm in the celebration zone with my hair. I'm actually having fun with my hair on a regular basis.
Frightening. I'm claiming MBL. I'm claiming healthy ends. I'm claiming my reaching my goals. So...hmm...what do I do now? I have no desire to relax my hair at all. I really don't want to chop my relaxed ends off....today. For the first time in 3 years, I have no idea where this journey is going, but I like it. I like it a lot.
While I figure out where this journey is going, I've promised myself to have a great time on the ride. Where is your healthy hair journey going? What are your goals?
Besitos!
KLP
Wow your hair looks really good and healthy. At the moment my hair is about an inch or so away from bra-strap length so I hope to be close to mid back length by the end of the year/early next year. x

DeleteCongratulations on your progress. I love your hair~it's so healthy and long. I'm 33 weeks post and trying to decide when I will end this stretch. Keep growing!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should try protein layering for your ends. I'm pretty siced to say that it totally works!
DeleteYour hair looks awesome KLP, congrats on making your hair goals! Beautiful x
ReplyDeleteIt really feels good to finally claim MBL! *throws more confetti!
DeleteWow you hair and hemline look great, I would have been like you will the pre flat ironing talk! Your regimen and hair care is solid, enjoy your hair !
ReplyDeleteI've never stretched for this long without a good amount of breakage. Thank you protein layering and whipped butter!
DeleteCongrats, your hair looks great & it's very healthy. Awesome work paid/pays off.

DeleteCongrats, your hair looks great! I'm definitely gonna try that protein layering, my ends need some help.
ReplyDeleteI was really skeptical about protein layering but my hair is certainly proof that it's working! I hope that it works for you too chica!
DeleteAwww so happy for u that u reached your goal. I love your attitude towards it too.. Just enjoy your hair #nolimits
ReplyDelete#nolimits! I love this! I'm reminded today that it's a journey and most definitely not a race...if it was...I would have lost 4 setbacks ago. LOL
DeleteGreat job reaching your goals! Keep going girl!
ReplyDeleteSometimes, I wonder if my ends will hold out another 4-5 inches to WL? Hmm...
DeleteGreat progress KLP! Your hair looks so thick and healthy.
ReplyDeleteMBL is my goal too, maybe by the end of the year.
I sprinkled a little pixie dust and crossed my fingers for you chica!
DeleteI am totally lusting after that length! Congrats on reaching your goal!!!
ReplyDeleteI've hit BSL a ton of times. I didn't really think that I'd make it this time either so this mini victory feels amazeballs! You're sooo supportive Court!
DeleteYour hair looks lovely can't wait to get to your length:) I haven't done a length check in eons will wait a couple more months to do that don't wanna be disappointed lol
ReplyDeleteI feel you...but I actually think that you'll be pleasantly surprised when you straighten chica!
DeleteVery cool. I'm sure relaxing your hair now would be a lot of work but it looks great as is. That's about where I want my hair to be when length is no longer on my agenda. Not sure what I'll do then or if I'll let it continue to grow after that. I actually probably have to use my sit under dryer at that point lol. Glad you made your goal, congrats.
ReplyDeleteIf I did relax again---I'd definitely have to go to a stylist. And even then, I have no clue how she'd know were to end the touch up. My last relaxer was ssssuuuppppeeeerrr under-processed which is why it looks like I only have 4-5 inches of relaxed hair.
DeleteCongratulations on making it to your goal KLP! your hair looks so healthy and I love that you're just enjoying it
ReplyDeleteCelebrate good times c'mon! LOL!
DeleteBut seriously...who is gonna clean up all this confetti?!?
Congrats on reaching your goal, KLP!! And kudos to you for being one year post relaxer while keeping your ends in such awesome condition!! Hopefully, I will follow suit with my length soon. I just hit two years so I think I'm on track to do the same by year three. Perhaps I could mail you my scissors to keep them out of my hands?? LOL!! Happy for you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Send me your scissors! I'll do anything to help a fellow scissor happy chica retain length! Ugh...what is it about blunt ends that makes us go crazy with the scissors?
