- Freshly washed and deep conditioned: I've learned the hard way to never apply direct heat to dirty hair. Although my prima had just washed her hair, I noticed build up on her strands and flakes on her scalp. So I shampooed the front half of her hair with KeraCare 1st Lather Shampoo and then another lather with KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo for her entire hair. Next, I deep conditioned with KeraCare Humecto under a hooded dryer for about an hour.
- Perfect Leave Ins: I like to use a moisturizing leave-in + protein heat protectant serum when I flat iron. I'm in love with It's a 10! Miracle Leave In, so using it on her hair was a no brainer. I'd usually reach for my Chi Silk Infusion, but I decided to give Sedu Anti-Frizz Polishing Treatment with Moroccan Argan Oil another try. I applied the leaves in sections while detanlging, then blow dried her hair on cool. Surprising the Sedu worked great! Even she was surprised at how smooth her hair was and that was before we'd flat ironed!
- Comb/Chase Flat iron technique: Ladies & Gents Ferrum Professional Hair Styler prides it self on straightening your hair with less heat, more shine, and more moisture retention. That sounds a little too good to be true right? But after finishing the first section of her hair, I was pretty impressed. I coupled the iron with my Sedu Carbon Flat Iron Comb and worked in 1/2" sections. Surprisingly I was able to get her hair straight with one pass. Yep, ONE PASS. She said that her hair had the volume of a Dominican blowout without the extreme heat and manipulation.
Do I love the Ferrum Professional Styler over my Solia Flat Iron? Meh...not yet. But it's growing on me but It is hard to justify the $189 price tag for something that I'll only use 3-4 times a year.
What kind of flat iron to you trust with your tresses?
Besitos!

Helpful tips and tutorial. I love her hair.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it gorge?!? She started her hhj about 2 years ago with an inch of natural roots and 3 inches of over-processed, breaking, and thin relaxed hair. Now she's completely in love with her curls! I'm so happy that I've been witness to her incredible transformation!
DeleteThanks for stopping by Nerline!
You did a great job with her hair. Great review on the straighteners... lmao @ 'straight not burnt hair'.
ReplyDeleteThanks Takara. A quick Google search shows that healthy hair burns at 450F damaged hair at temps as low as 250-300. Ain't no body about that life!
