Wash Day - 10/11 weeks post (Late Post)/ Touch up!

Hola Chicas!!

Yesssss! I actually wash my hair still... I had a lovely wash day on last week..concluding with a braid out! ( I will tweet out pic of my braidout :P)

Notes: I decided to do a braidout as I stretch through the week before my touch up! I am sure there will be tangles galore eeekkkk...but I really wanted a cute no heat style. I will be getting my touch up this Friday at the salon! Yes, after my last experience it is very shocking I would but I am going back to my main squeeze who hates the thought of cutting my hair :)  She used Affirm for my touch up and I LOVED it!! I actually stayed for the entire time! Woot Woot!

Products
Wash Day

(1) Detangled/Pre-poo: I combed through my hair with my lovely MAGIC COMB! (s/n: I plan on getting another comb to really help at my roots) with my Essential Oil Mix/Philip Kingsley Scalp Toner on my scalp and EVCO/Chi Moisture Brillance on length of my hair. I literally cleaned my place for about 1 hr and half. haha

(2) Being a little different, I did a tea rinse with my new CC's naturals Happy Hair Tea right away. I placed Roux Moisture Recovery over it before rinsing out of my hair.

All my shedding :D
(3) DC with AS I AM Hydration Elation Intensive Conditioner.... smelled like cake! yummyy...must say my first impressions were good but I shall have a full review after a few more uses. I sat under some heat (my bf calls it a UFO shield lol) for about 40 mins. :D

(4) KLP gave me some goodies last time I saw her...so I let my hair dry for a bit then used a sample size of Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream to moisturize my hair as I braided it up then went to sleep!!

Results: Look at the tweet! But I loved it!! The curls actually held mainly due to the cream Im sure! It was just a KILLER detangling for my touch up ekkk! I also used Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Leave In as well, first impressions I like it a lot!

October 2013 After Touch up
June/July 2013
Touch up results: After waiting what felt like forever, I finally got a touch up using Affirm. I like to interchange between doing my own touch up and the salon! Although, many around me having been saying/asking me about transitioning to natural...I am not there yet personally. Due to my time, I just need my hair manageable for me... I totally can/will in future but for now I am happy! :D Anywayss, I loved the results and am really pleased with my growth/trim.

I am heading out to LA this Thursday!! Visiting my one of my besties!! Look out for my Travel Hair :P via tweets and I shall post when I get back!

My Straight Hair Is Out To Get Me

Giant Top Knot with Side Swoop
My hair has been straight for about a week and I can NOT wait to get my big hair back! Here's why:

Day 1: Why did I choose to straighten my hair on the only 90+ degree day in mid September. The low temp two days prior was 49. I was hot. I was sweaty. I felt like I had too much hair. It was not fun. My hair ended up in a bun.  My straight hair is out to get me.

Day 2: I slept, not so comfortably in 6 flexi-rods to throw some curls in the mix. Loved the curls---hated the the way that my hair rubbed on my shoulders the next day. I had a major freak out while walking down the street with the wind blowing my hair about. I just knew that there was a spider crawling on me. My neighbor saw the whole thing. *shame face* My hair ended up in a bun. My straight hair is out to get me.

Day 3: "Wow! I love your hair. <whispers> Is that your yours? Is it a wig or a weave?" Really tho? *le sigh* ---Yes it's real. It is really growing out of my scalp. This is a very awkward conversation. You've known me since I was in diapers. My straight hair is out to get me.

Day 4: My ponytail got caught on the clothing hook in my car while I was buckling my kid's car seat. Even a pony can't save me. My straight hair is out to get me.

Day 5: Whilst shopping, my hair got caught in my purse strap on the right and then in my reuseable grocery bags on the left. My straight hair is out to get me.

Day 6: Grr... I blew a bubble and my gum got a hair in it. Soooo gross. My straight hair is out to get me.

I love my straight hair, but I'm totally over it! I'm bunning until wash day! Flowly hair is fun for a little while---I'm just not sure that it's me anymore.

Sleek and Straight Styles

My sleek and straight hair only comes to visit every blue moon. So I took full advantage of it by and styling testing out a few styles that my fluffy air dried hair can't quite pull off. All of my styles required little manipulation,  low maintenance and high on sass. Here's my sleek and straight style week in review:

Another variation of my fave 30 second bun-less style

Wash Day

Now that I've got my vacay hair style mastered---I'm so totally ready to be in the Florida sun! I've been working on the perfect Bantu knot cocktail for my hair. So far, the winner is Jessicurl's Too Shea Conditioner, a dab of grapeseed oil, plus a smidgen of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Precise amounts right? Ha-ha. The best part is that my hair stays moisturized and detangling was actually a breeze this wash day. Here are the dets:

Wash Day Products

(0) Detangled with my magic rake in the same sections that my hair was knotted. I applied a little of my essential oil blend to my roots to aid in detangling.

(1) Shampooed with KeraCare 1st Lather Shampoo to clarify first and then Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Hydrating Shampoo to give my back some moisture. I do declare that I love this shampoo! May it never be discontinued! Don't forget to enter the Matrix Giveaway so that you can win your very own bottle!
(2) Protein Treatment: I saturated my hair in Nexxus Emergencee then did some chores. It air dried for a few hours. Next, I stood under the spray of my shower for about 5 minutes to rinse the treatment completely.
(3) Extreme deep condition with  a 3-1 ratio of Joico Moisture Recovery and Roux Porosity Control Conditioner on the length of my hair. I massaged a little grapeseed oil through my strands, covered with a plastic cap and sat under my heat cap for an hour. (4) Green Tea Rinse with 2 green tea bags and 2 cups of water. Then applied the green tea rinse with a narrow tip applicator bottle and let it sit for another 5 minutes.
(5) Smoothing treatment with Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment. I rinsed the tea and massage a dollop of conditioner to my strands.
(6) Air dried with a cotton t-shirt until my hair was about 80% dry.
(7) Leave Ins- Never underestimate the power of a great pre-wash detangle. I didn't even need both combs for the 2 comb method today to detangle. I added a little Jessicurl's Too Shea Conditioner and Grapeseed oil to each section. Then I pulled my hair into a loose bun and tied it up with a satin scarf to get my roots to lay down.
Results:
Wash Day Shed Hair
Smooth? Check. Detangled? Check. A girl could really get used to worry free wash days. I've even considered extending this stretch a few more weeks beyond my vacay if I can fend off long strand breakage. I'm reserving full wash days for the weeks when I need a protein treatment. Why? Because I'm spoiled. Only having to get into the shower once is too awesome to pass up! Of course if my scalp disagrees, I'll shampoo.

How was your wash day?

Mini Wash Day

Notes: I'm on track to end this stretch on a 4 week no heat run. I haven't gone no heat for more than 2 weeks at a time in ages. I'm definitely enjoying coming up with new styles. To test to see if my mini wash #success was a fluke, I skipped pre-poo and shampooing again this week. The picture below shows all the products that I used in the order that they were used.

Mini Wash Day Products
(0) Detangled with mMagic Star Jumbo Rake in vertical sections.
(1) Extreme Deep Condition: Applied Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp Toner and my essential oil blend to my scalp, JBCO, and Joico Moisture Recovery Conditioner to the length of my hair. Then I coated my strands in extra virgin coconut oil watched a movie under my new heating cap for about two hours.
(2) Green Tea Rinse with 2 tea bags and 2 cups of water in a narrow tip applicator bottle. I let the rinse sit on my hair for about 5 minutes. I'm in love with this technique! Its so much easier and it prevents me from having to disturb my roots. Using this technique instead of just pouring the cooled tea over my head, makes me feel like I'm getting the rinse on my scalp--which is where I really want it to be!
(3) Smoothing Treatment- massaged Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment into my hair and let sit for about 7 minutes. I rinsed with cool water.
90% Air Dried Texlaxed Hair
(4) Air dry- I let my hair dry 80% in a cotton t-shirt, then tie down my edges with a silk scarf to complete drying. Next, I detangle and add my leave-ins.
(5) Leave-ins- It's a 10! and Chi Silk infusion. I found two SSKs but they were teeny-tiny and took a minute or two to unravel.

Results: Beautifully moisturized and soft, big fluffy hair and very little shed hair. AGAIN! So, that's two weeks in a row. Mini wash #ftw. I wonder if my extreme deep conditioning with the heating cap is helping my strands get super moisturized? Hmm...
Here's a pic of my shed hairs from this wash day separated this time into pre-wash detangle, shower shedding, and post-wash detangling. I enlarged the photo to show the size, but included a British 50 pence for comparison. The 50 pence is about the size of an American quarter. (I couldn't find a quarter to save my life. Ha-ha! My daughter firmly believes that all coins belong in her piggy bank. After 20 minutes of searching, I just gave up and used this coin leftover from my hubby's travels abroad) Random note: I love playing around in my curly roots. It kinda makes me want to through caution to the wind and wait another couple of weeks before I relax---or maybe not relax at all. *Gasp*
Shed Hair: Pre-wash detangle, Shower shed, & Post-wash detangle

How was your wash day? Does going natural ever cross your mind?
