I wash my hair twice a week; a mid-week co-wash then a few days later I deep condition.

I start by spritzing my hair with my DIY Hair Moisturizing Mist, finger detangle, divide my hair into 6 sections, and then apply a little conditioner and oil.
Section by section, I detangle again releasing shed hairs, and thoroughly rinse the conditioner. Once out of the shower, I apply an oil, then a leave in conditioner and seal with hair butter. I typically style my hair by stretching it with curlformers.

Once a week, I deep condition overnight. I deep condition overnight to save time and because my hair loves, loves, loves moisture. Whenever I talk about how much I love deep conditioning overnight, I have to include a disclaimer: This technique, like everything else in the healthy hair care arena, won't work for everyone. It's your hair and your life, figure out what works the best for you. Just promise me that you'll try it before you knock it?

Once a month, I like to apply a Bentonite Clay treatment or rinse to my hair when I notice that my curls need a pick me up. Bentonite Clay is amazingness in a jar. It's moisturizing, detoxifying, a shine enhancer, frizz eliminator----just curl defining goodness. You can find my clay mask treatment recipe here and I also have a clay rinse recipe that you can use weekly here.

I very rarely shampoo my hair. When I do, I use Matrix Biolage Hydrasource Shampoo or Jessicurl Cleansing Cream. I hope to eliminate my need for shampoo soon.

While, I'm not seeing a ton of breakage, I still like to use a protein conditioner as a pre-shampoo treatment once or twice a month to fortify my ends and prevent damage. My favorite strengthening conditioners are Joico K-PAK RevitaLuxe and Aubrey GPB Conditioner.

My favorite co-washing conditioners are Herbal Essence Hello Hydration and Trader Joe's Tingle Conditioner. (Great alternatives are Aussie 3 Minute Deep, Tresemme Naturals Conditioner, and OGX Argan Oil Conditioner)

Do either of you use daily moisturizers, If so what kind, I am in need of a good moisturizer that doesn't break the bank..
ReplyDeleteOf course! I moisturize daily using Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Split End Protector. It will run you about $4 and one bottle lasts me at least a month. Here's my review on it: http://savingourstrands.blogspot.com/2013/01/product-review-herbal-essences.html.
DeleteI hope that this helps!
I just learned something new. How do you do a clay rinse? I've done clay washes and such (making mine like the Lavender Terresentials mud wash) but never just used it as a rinse. What's the benefits of doing a rinse vs a clay?
ReplyDeletethanks!
Hey Chica!
DeleteWhen I do a clay rinse, I use more liquid (ACV and Aloe Vera Juice) than I do with my clay mask which makes the mixture thinner. I apply it using an applicator bottle in the shower after shampooing but before deep conditioning. I just let it sit for a few minutes and rinse! I should probably give the full dets in a real post huh? LOL
Thanks for stopping by!
ah ok. yes, do a post on the differences between the 2! :-) I did a clay wash this weekend. I've never done it as a rinse
