[Tutorial] Professional Quick Pinned Updo {Keyda]

Have you ever styled your hair out of frustration!?

hah! Well, I experienced quite a frustration trying to style my hair after my wash day. I needed to also have a elegant yet simple style for my school's graduation! However, it ended with a lovely up-do that I pinned up (if I say so myself!). It took me about 30minutes lol but it should literally only take 5minutes. This style and the many renditions, NEVER get old! What's your up-do!?

How to:

1. Moisturize & Seal hair! I used a dab of water, then sealed with CHI Silk Infusion and put a dab of Hair butter.

2. Separate bangs and clip. I made a semi-deep middle part that was off to the side. (not so complicated!) 

3. Gather hair starting from back then securely with bobby pin. Securely pin all hair around side. Now, you look like you want a mohawk! hah! 

4. Separate as needed and pin curl those pieces, securing with bobby pin. Then unclip your bangs. Gather one side and pull atop of head from front to back, securely pinning hair at back. Tip: My bangs were long enough to pinned on the inside of my back pin curls, so no ends could really be seen. Then do other side. 

Vaalaaa! I was going for this style with twists atop... No-go for me... Instead I have this! :) 

Sidebar: Another counselor said " You must wear your hair like this on your wedding day!" lol...No, Imma be flowing! lol

[Hairstyle] Goddess Braid Styles

KLP and I love braiding our hair into up-dos or other classic styles. We especially HEART goddess braids. They are simple, easy, and quick, plus they're fun and flirty for the summer. Who doesn't love a sassy protective style? We like to jazz it up with a curly bang or even swirl the ends into a bun. Here's how we do our goddess braid:

How To Do A Goddess Braid: 

1. Begin with detangled and moisturized hair. KLP's Tip: "Starting on an old bantu knot set gives your braids added fullness"
2. Divide your hair in half. Deep side parts flatter all faces in this style. Keyda's Tip: Leave a small section out to fame your face.
3. Start your dutch braid at the front then braid away from your face. Stay close to your edges and braid all the way down to the back.
4. Repeat on the other side. KLP's Tip: Fluff your braid by picking it apart a little.
5. Cross the two braids in the back and secure them with bobby pins. Keyda's Tip: Add a bow or headband to accessorize.

Once you get the braid down, this style literally only takes 5 mins or less! This style is all over the red carpet. Our hair muse Tracee Ellis Ross is famous for them!

SOS: Protective Styles (Minute To Win It)

Back by popular demand; A new Minute to Win It Protective Style! I love the "Minute to Win it" protective styling series because once you've mastered it, you can change up small pieces of the puzzle by adding a braid, a bun, or a tuck to create a completely different style! This style was done on third day bantu knot hair. 

Quick How to:

Bantu Knot Faux Bob

1. Detangle and moisturize your hair.
2. Split from ear to ear. Pull the back half of your hair into a quasi-roll or extra large pincurl. Then use a large bobby pin to secure the roll on each side. This technique creates the "faux bob" look.
3. Part the front section into a deep side part. 
4. Leave a few ringlets down to frame your face. Pin the rest back loosely.

SOS: Protective Styling- Only Minutes to Win it

I love the "Minute to Win it" protective styling series because all of the styles have "legs"; Meaning that once you've mastered it, you can change up small pieces of the puzzle and create a completely different style! Today, I want to introduce you to my take on Keyda's French Braid style.

  
Quick How to: 

1. Detangle and moisturize your hair. 
2. Split your hair in half from front to back. Flip out of the way. Then create a deep side part. Pull this section (only) into a double strand flat twist. Twist complete to the bottom of your hair. 
3. Take this twist and coil it into itself, to create a pseudo-bang. Secure the coil with a bobby pin. 
4. Dutch braid the back two sections and use a metal-free elastic to secure a ponytail. 
5. Twist your pony into a bun. Secure with bobby pins.

I love jazzing this style up with flower accessories to make it just a little more special. It also holds up extremely well. Simply cover with a satin bonnet at night and it can last for 2-3 days. Who says that heat free protective styling is boring?

SOS Protective Styling: Only Minutes to Win It

Last Week, I had my hair in two french braids for first half, before rocking the braid-out for remainder of the week! I do not have a picture of how it looked after but it was cute! I will definitely do something similar this week! :) Everyone can do this style (Nothing special!.. I just really liked how my hair accessories made it something more!!)

Hair Style : Two French Braids

A. Simply part hair down middle (Or wherever you like)

B. Braid both sides till they ends meet and place your fave accessory!

SOS: Protective Styling- Only Minutes to Win it

M2WI: Deep Side Part Twisted Bun

I love the "Minute to Win it" protective styling series because all of the styles have "legs"; Meaning that once you've mastered it, you can change up small pieces of the puzzle and create a completely different style! That's exactly what I've been doing for the last two weeks: taking my staple styles then switching it up with different types of braids and twists. A perfect example is the Deep Side Part Twisted Bun that debuted on SOS Hair a few weeks ago.  



To breathe new life into this style. I made the side part deeper, double strand twisted the front, then pinned the twist back into a side bun. Tada! New style! Sometimes its easier to go to a style that you "know" works for your hair and then spice it up a bit.

SOS: Only Minutes to Win It Series --Braid it into a Updo!

So, I have been playing with the idea of doing an "upside" french braid. I have seen the style in several magazines and online soo I was like hey! that looks quick, simply and gorge! : D Now, I did this style super quick AT WORK lol (let's say I was late..hehe) and took pictures after working from 7am -7pm with some crazyyyy kidss! Anyhoo...here is the style!

Minute Style: Braid Updo

Directions: Bend down so all hair is upside down. Braid from center upward and bobby pin, when done with braid. Gather hair at front to place in ponytail. I actually wrapped my hair around into a bun (no hair tie or "bun helper" lol). Place cute hair accessories and vaalaa!

**I plan on really perfecting this style..and making a bigger bun at top.

Side/Front: Placed two bows on side of bun

SOS Protective Styling: Only Mins to Win It! (On-the go style!)

Hola Chica!

Taking notes from my fave DIVA :) KLP, I shall be adding my quick/easy/lovely styles to the Only Minutes to Win It protective hair styling series!

These two simple styles can be done quickly at any red light, if you're like me in a hurry for work (most of the time lol)! These two styles are HEAT FREE and have can be easily done on air dried tresses. All you need are your fave/cute hair accessories and it'll take you less than 5 mins!

Style 1, Take a Bow! (aka My hair is a gift! lol) :

 1. Do a quick side part (to side of preference).

2. Gather side with most hair, and twist over from edges to back from part down the side of head.

3. Bobby pin it! To hold in place.

4. Gather hair from both sides and place in pony tail..I also put a little Organix Coconut Anti Breakage Serum (review coming!) before pony tails..Protect your hair!

5. Fold under and bobby pin ends...into bun! And place lovely bow over your hair band! Vallll la!

Style 2, Twisted Flowers! :

Front!

1. Part in center or a lil off center and gather hair. Similar to above style, twist hair from edge to middle down side of head. However, do this to both sides! Bobby pin in place. I always make sure to have a little height with mine but you can twist close to scalp if you wish!

2. Take back of hair (not twisted) and gather together to twist upward! And clip it with your fave clips! That is it! My fave style and it looks like work! lol

SOS: Protective Styling- Only Minutes to Win it

Time is a precious commodity in my world. Often times I find myself tired of being tired of being stretched thin. So if I want to cross off everything on my to-do list--I've gotta be fast, efficient, and claro que si cute! Without further ado, I present to you the first in SOS hair's Only Minutes to Win It protective styling series. These styles will be created on heat free (when you don't have time to do rolos or whip out that flat iron) and air dried tresses. You'll be able to recreate in just a few simple steps with only a few hair pins, some moisturizer, and less than 5 minutes. After all, we only have minutes to win it!

Here's my first style:

Quick How to:

1. Detangle and moisturize your hair.
2. Split your hair into a deep side part. Then part that section from crown to ear. Pull this section (only) towards your face then flat twist starting at the roots and down to the ends.
3. Flip the twist back then secure with a bobby pin near where you want the base of your bun. 
4. Finger comb the rest of your hair back and use a metal-free elastic to secure a ponytail
5. Twist your pony into a bun. Secure your bun with bobby pins.

I also love varying this style with a double strand twisted or braided.
