Wash Day | Keyda

Products
Hola Chicas!

This past weekend was pretty hectic with my dance performance! I must say I think our show was fabulous! I have danced with Contradiction Dance for three years (maybe 4 now lol) and I this was definitely our BEST show yet! :) I used a ton of heat on my hair for both performances and to keep my sleek curls bouncy, I used a ton of hair spray. Needless to say, my hair needed a good washing. Here's what I did:

[A] Detangled with fingers at my roots and with my Magic Rake.

[B] Pre-shampoo with my essential oil mix on my scalp and Paul Mitchell Super Charged Moisturizer on length of my hair.

[C] Shampoo with Organix Hydrating Macadamia Oil. I wanted CLEAN hair.

[D] Deep Condition with Organix Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Recovery Mask. I ended with a faux steam session from my EXTRA hot shower! lol

[E] Black Tea Rinse!

[F] Air Dried 100% (excess water soaked from 100% cotton t-shirt), with a light spray of Nexxus Hydralight lift all over with focus on my roots and a dab of Koils by Nature Perfectly Peppermint Hair Butter through my hair.

My Hair Reality:
I wanted to braided my hair and do a braid out. Of course, I got sleepy so I actually did a bun in the back of head and have a cute braid out in front! Pero... me encanta! It actually turned out super cute and I received compliments from students which = #win. Overall, my hair and scalp felt so clean and refreshed after a long weekend. I totally needed a break from that heat. My hair has its thickness and continued softness that I love every wash day! I have been really focusing on doing my main regimen without a ton of products and I am loving the outcome! :)

How was your wash day?

SOS Mini Wash Day - 8 weeks post {Keyda}

Hola Chicas!

Products
So, I realized that I did not post about my last relaxer! It was a very quick decision because I wanted to fly out to Hawaii with sleeker hair (less stress in managing my hair) hehe. It was a self-relaxer and I used Creme of Nature... I love this brand for my hair. I will have a length check at my next relaxer. I also plan on stretching to at least 12-15 weeks this time....we shall see. I think a good stretch is perfect during this time because it is too cold!! haha I have been relaxing at 10-12 weeks prior because I noticed my hair retained more length/roughly same without the stretch.

Side w/ individual braids
[1] Detangled with my magic comb... There is somewhat more shedding from my hair, WINTER is here! :( However, I will say that the shedding is extremely far less than I have had in previous years so I do not feel as though I am LOSING ALL of my hair.

[2] Pre-poo with JBCO/Essential Oil Mix/Philip Kinglsey Scalp Toner on my scalp and Organix Moroccan Argan Creme Conditioner with focus on the roots and CHI deep reconstructor with focus on the length of my hair. I sealed with Virgin Coconut Oil.

[3] Co-wash with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration

[4] Tea Rinse with CC's Natural Happy Hair Tea

[5] Air dried 50% then I braided up my hair. I decided to braid it into a style. Individual braids that were braided into a larger one with a side french braid.

French Braid

My hair was very soft and manageable. I am hoping for little shedding as I comb it out over the weekend. I plan on curling my hair in the coming weeks to help stretch with a few braid outs. I really hope I can last haha. My scalp has been lovely. I admit that I can have a DRY/ITCHY scalp however my scalp has been rarely if at all irritated in between my washes recently. I am soo relieved with this.

Does you scalp get irritated more easily in winter or summer?

Wash Day

Bantu Knot Set
Last weekend, my hubby and I pretended not to be adults by spending the weekend in the city kid-free to celebrate our anniversary. I used my knockoff version of KBN's whipped hair butter as the sealant in my bantu knot cocktail. My knockoff butter version is definitely heavier and more difficult to spread than my beloved KBN's butter, but I loved the results. My hair felt full of moisture during take down. The curls were gorge and totally survived a day (and night) out out by the water. They were frizz and fuzz-less the next day, but I still opted for a high bun with bangs. I can only deal with my hair being wild and free for a few hours at a time. This wash, I decided to give my hair a good shampoo then fuse a heaping helping of moisture into my strands with a good deep conditioning. Here's how the moisture max wash day went:

Wash Day Products
  1. Detangled- using my Magic Star Jumbo Rake seamless comb and a little avocado oil to aid in detangling.
  2. Scalp Massage- with JBCO. I covered with a plastic cap for about an hour.
  3. 1st Lather Shampoo- I applied about half the sample size of Mixed Chicks Shampoo diluted with water to scalp using a narrow tip applicator bottle. Being careful not to tangle my roots, I added the shampoo then rinsed. I'm so glad that I used in place of a clarifying shampoo. My hair felt squeaky clean and completely stripped. I'd probably never buy a full size of this one.
  4. 2nd Lather Shampoo- To restore a little moisture, I followed with diluted Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Hydrating Shampoo in an applicator bottle. Fingers crossed that this poo is never discontinued.
  5. Extreme Deep Condition- Next, I deep conditioned with with a 3-1 ratio of Roux PC Conditioner and Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Conditioning Balm on the length of my hair. Then, I massaged my strands with, Chi Silk Infusion, covered with a plastic cap and relaxed for 2 hours. This cocktail works like magic on relaxer days so I thought that it would be a delight in a regular wash.
  6. Tea Rinse- I rinsed the conditioner then with 2 green tea bags steeped in 2 cups of water, I applied my tea rinse using a narrow tip applicator. I let it sit for a few minutes and rinsed.
  7. Smoothing Treatment- Next, I applied a large dollop of Nexxus Hydralight Weightless Moisture Conditioner, massaged it in from root to tip for a minute or two then rinsed. I'm glad to be done with this bottle. It wasn't a win for me at all. Keyda had much better results.
  8. Air Dried- 70% with silk scarf.
  9. Leave-Ins- Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Split End Protector + Argan Oil
Results:
Some of the most moisturized tresses of the summer! My hair felt super light and very clean. I noticed that I lost a little more hair in the shower than I usually do, however, that was off set by only having 3 strands lost during my post wash detangle. Totally a #win! This week I intend on being laid back (but not lazy) with my hair. Time to whip out a few Bun Effect styles then keep it moving.

How was your last wash day? How do you keep your hair laid back without being negligent?

Besitos!

Mini Wash Day

Styling this week was far easier than it was last week. Nothing like a good wash day and detangling session to get your hair back on track. Last week, I ditched green tea moisturizing in favor of using my It's a 10 Miracle Leave In and then slighting with EVCO or argan oil. I think that I'm forever sold on the 2-comb detangling method. My roots were easier to manage and seemed to behave better (read: lay down!) than they did without it.

(0) Detangled with my magic rake in vertical sections.
(1) Extreme deep condition with Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp Toner, my essential oil blend, and a little JBCO on my scalp. Plus a 3-1 ratio of Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Treatment and Roux Porosity Control Conditioner on the length of my hair. I massaged a little EVCO through my strands, covered with a plastic cap and sat under my heat cap forever and a day. Ha-ha. It was really about 3 hours.
(2) Tea Rinse with 2 green tea bags steeped 2 cups of water. I rinsed the conditioner thoroughly. Applied the tea rinse with a narrow tip applicator bottle and then let it sit on my hair for 5 minutes while in the shower.
(3) Smoothing treatment with Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment. I rinsed the tea and massage a dollop of conditioner to my strands. I did a little light detangling very very gently.
(4) Air dried with a cotton t-shirt until my hair was about 80% dry.
(5) Leave Ins- I detangled using the 2 comb method while adding a little It's a 10 Miracle Leave in and Chi Silk Infusion to each section.

Results:
Big Big Hair! I never get tired of saying that. Don't shoot me if you are tired of hearing it. Ha-ha! I just realized that I may want to relax a little early this stretch. My family is going on vacation in about 3 weeks and I totally do not want to deal with 11 week post hair poolside or 2 hour detangling sessions just to get my hair presentable. I usually rock braidouts, high buns, and my 30 second old faithful updo but we're having a huge birthday bash that I want to look my very best for (read: I want to be able to flip my hair for). Oh...what's a chica to do?

A penny for your thoughts: relax a little early or just deal?

Besitos!

Wash Day - 8 weeks post relaxer

Hola Chicas!

Some tidbits: I was veryyyy excited to do a full completed wash day for my hair! :D I have also realized how my hair truly misses Philip Kingsley Scalp Toner... I like to take breaks when I finish a product to see if that product "really did wonders" or was it in my head. lol Well SOS DIVAS, since I have not used the scalp toner.. my scalp is more irritable even with tea rinses, however my it isn't overload lol but still... I miss that soothing feeling! I now know that my toner is a keeper! It works well with my other products and is a good teammate lol to my tea rinses to help with my scalp/dandruff! :D

My Products! (Forgot my tea)
(1) Prepoo overnight (1st time) with my Essential Oil Mix/JBCO on my scalp and grapeseed oil on length of my hair. -I admit, it was interesting doing an overnight prepoo...i might try with other products next time...

(2) Detangle with my magic comb!

(3) Shampoo with my FAVE, Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shampoo -really focusing on my scalp!

(4) Tea Rinse with CC's Naturals Lavender & Chamomile Hair Tea, I steepened overnight (first time) and I LOVED IT! My hair feels awesome after this rinse.... Can not wait to share my review/try other tea mixtures! :D

(5) DC with Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm (Check KLP Review of their Ultra Conditioning Balm) sealed with CHI Silk Infusion ... I actually sat under my dryer for 30 minutes! (If you know me, you know I hate sitting under the hood lol...sooo this is good) then I chilled for another 30minutes before washing it out!

(6) My Leave-ins included Nexxus Hydra-light Weightless Moisture Root Lift Mist (My roots really love this product...review coming!) and my fave Organix Coconut Anti-breakage Serum!

Air Dried 100%, Excess water was dried with 100% cotton t-shirt .... Doing lovely NO HEAT styles till my MINI WASH! (Yess, I shall do another!)

After Leave-ins
My shedding! :D
My Hair Reality: My hair felt sooo soft and luxurious! lol My roots also seemed very moisturized and I loved how plushh they have been feeling. My hair dried much softer this wash time which I was very pleased about. I really loved the Matrix balm and I think not overloading with Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea is beneficial for my hair. My shedding is picking up a tad due to the weather change (Spring is here!), however I think with my tea rinses and scalp toner in tow...my shedding will be "normal"!

How was your wash day!?

Touch-up - 8 to 9 weeks Post Last

Hola Chicas!

So, I finally "caved" lol and did a touch up! I must say I feel 10 times lighter and I have noticed more length. I think I will continue to not stretch so far so I can retain more length in my hair :) we shall see how it goes...

I used Optimum Hair Care Salon Relaxer Kit! It even included a moisturizer and I must admit my hair was not super hard afterwards...I did do a ACV rinse after, just to be safe! I also clipped my ends but I am debating having a cut! IDK...what would you do? I am happy with my length but I am getting more and more tempted to do a BIG chop! uhmmmm

Wash Day

Today's Wash Pre-poo
Notes: I really couldn't wait to wash my hair this weekend. I'm not sure if this is just in my imagination but every time that I massage JBCO into my scalp--I just feel like my brain can't breathe. This castor oil is incredibly thick but regardless of how little I use--it just feels like too much. I did a JBCO scalp massage last Thursday and it is definitely the last time that I'll do that unless its a wash day!

(0) Detangled with my Magic Star Jumbo Rake. Again, I detangled in vertical sections instead of horizontal like last week.
After adding my pre-poo
(1) (Moisture Max) Pre-poo with Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp Toner, my essential oil blend, and Mizani Moisturefusion Silk Cream conditioner.  Covered with a plastic cap and sat under the hooded dryer for about 55 minutes.
(2) Shampooed with Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Hydrating Shampoo
(3) Green Tea Rinse with 2 tea bags and 2 cups of water
(4) Smoothing Treatment- massaged Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment into my hair and let sit for about 5 minutes
(5) Extreme Deep Condition with Halka Baba de Caracol + a little Chi Silk Infusion and then sat under the hooded dryer for an hour. I rinsed with cool water.
(6) Air dry- I decided to go heat free this week so I let my hair air dry 100% then applied my leave ins. I just find it easier to detangle dry vs. dripping wet tex-laxed hair. When I don't properly detangle my hair (especially once I get 8+ weeks since my last relaxer) I start to get tons of single strand knots. They are a pain to get rid of and require more patience then I usually can muster.
(7) Leave-ins- Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Split End Protector + EVCO (Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Big 'Ol Poofy Hat Bun
Results: Big Poofy Hair! Ha-ha! I have a love/hate relationship with my big poofy hair. It's not sleek or smooth. It rarely behaves. Then at the same time it makes the biggest, fluffiest lazy day buns in the world---can't go wrong with that!

How was your wash day?

Un mil besitos!

Interview Style!

So, I probably did the quickest wash EVER! lol ... I did my normal (regimen post soon) routine but in half the time.. I did prepoo with essential oil blend, and my Baba de Caracol on length of hair, placed a warm towel on my hair and enclosed it in a cap! I used KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo and my Emergencia Coconut Conditioner as a quick DC. I admit my hair was SUPER manageable and sooo soft! I used my fave leave-ins and air dried for a bit. I eventually did a light blow over with my dryer...

My hair reality:

I styled it in a up-do for my interview..I did a bump, and then split my back ends like pigtails. I twisted each side and pinned it around the crown of my head going to the opposite side. I only flat ironed my bangs! (link of this hairstyle to come...it was many cute up-dos to choose from :D)

Team no heat!

I decided to put my flower pins in!

Since my hair is not super long..yet! .. I did two twists for each section

** I plan on adding green/black tea rinses back into my routine...I have noticed a difference! I also plan on getting a touch-up very soon...I want to retain my length and not face breakage...soo I plan on touching up those roots! lol by next week! Soo, look out for post!

What you think? Think I should hold fast or go for it!?

PS... Can I get some fingers crossed I get a call back! :D

Quick Wash Day 2/1/13

Hola Luvs!

So, I did a quick wash day that ended up being an overnight process! But I really want to keep my scalp extra clean this winter and my hair moisturized!

(1) Pre-poo: Warm EVOO on my scalp and Emergencia Coconut Conditioner on length of hair. Placed cap on and sat around for 1 hour. I was sleepy...

(2) Shampoo/Cowash: Co-washed with Nothing but Clensing Conditioner (honestly, you can co-wash with any conditioner but I have been giving this one a try!). Personally, I am not a huge fan, I think it is the culprit in making my hair feel kinda greasy/heavy...IDK, maybe I will try it just on my scalp primarily next time, with another conditioner on length of my hair... (like a review said)

(3) Protien Treatment with Aphogee 2 min Reconstructor (Oo that smell...Oo Nexxus, how I miss you! But I refuse to product overload lol)

(4) DC : Oo faithful, Baba de Caracol for a roughly 30 mins. I was really tired lol .. I will be rotating a new DC into my hair regimen soon...decisions...I was using organix moisturized treatments here and there but I think I definitely need one more DC staple..
My hair is just below my shoulders, maybe further if I was reaching up for picture lol

(5) Leave-in: I further detangled with my wack comb ..but I PURCHASED THE COMB KLP LOVES! :D Then I sprist a little Aphogee Leave-in with Keratin (I think I liked it more without..but uhmm time shall tell), Philip Kinglesy Scalp Toner  on my scalp, Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum and a lil PM Super Skinny Serum

Pinned my hair in bun, tied my ends down with silk scarf.....and you guessed it! Went to sleep :D lol

Results: My hair felt more greasy than normal and thicker. I think it was the product for my cowash this time around. I definitely have 2-3 inches of new growth...sooo that relaxer is looking pretty nice...

I did a quick twist on slide and pin up! Work day with kids!
